Heckler OK After Hysterectomy

WASHINGTON — Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret M. Heckler was reported in excellent condition today after undergoing a hysterectomy at a Washington hospital, the department said.
HHS spokesman Campbell Gardett said the elective surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours and was routine, with no complications. Heckler, 54, will remain at the Columbia Hospital for Women for less than a week, then recuperate at home, Gardett said.
