In its first written response to lawsuits filed in U.S. courts over last December’s chemical disaster in India, Union Carbide said it will move to quash the suits on the grounds that the matter belongs in the Indian courts. It said it also will argue that the lawyers representing the Bhopal victims have no power to act on their behalf and that the plaintiffs lack standing to sue in U.S. courts.
