Compaq Computer reported a 536% increase in second-quarter earnings over the like 1984 quarter. Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 was up 80% from a year earlier. “Despite the negative reports we continue to hear and read about the computer industry, the latest research data shows continued good growth in the market for business personal computers,” said Rod Canion, Compaq’s president and chief executive. Canion said the company is particularly pleased with the strong contribution to financial performance made by the new Compaq 80286-based products.
