Storms Inundate Southern Nebraska

Thunderstorms dumped up to six inches of rain across southern Nebraska Saturday, pushing rivers over their banks, flooding roads and stranding about 200 residents of Deshler.
Four inches of rain in 1 1/2 hours flooded Snake Creek to the 15-foot level, cutting off about 200 Deshler residents in the southern part of the town. The creek bed is normally dry, Mayor Harold Struve said.
“The stream just couldn’t absorb that much water,” Struve said.
At least 12 homes were evacuated and there was extensive damage to several businesses, Struve said. No injuries were reported in the town of 994, about five miles north of the Kansas border.
