With the completion of its $10-million addition, Mustang Village, a privately owned, off-campus student housing complex adjacent to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is one of the largest such developments in the nation.
The complex now has 432 units, accommodating 1,188 students. The 17-acre site, adjoining the Cal Poly campus, is bounded by California and Foothill boulevards and is one block from California 1.
The new construction consists of 14 buildings, most of town-house design, totaling nearly 168,000 square feet, and includes 41 two-bedroom and 259 studio apartments. One building is designed for up to 60 handicapped students with such features as an elevator and special bathrooms.
Rents range from $2,340 for a nine-month lease during the school term to $6,600 for a 12-month lease, depending on the unit. Apartments vacated during the summer are available to tourists on a daily or weekly basis. Amenities include barbecue areas, swimming pool, recreation, meeting and study rooms, laundry and on-site parking.
The owner is San Luis Obispo Associates, whose managing partner is Jack I. Salzberg of Beverly Hills. The architect is Merriam-Fraser, the general contractor is San Luis Obispo Associates and the leasing agent is Thomas Allen.
