Scott Molina of Del Mar, defended his title in the Bud Light U.S. Triathlon Series/Chicago, finishing first in a field of more than 2,300 athletes. Organizers called it the largest triathlon ever.

Molina, 25, completed the 1.5- kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bicycle race and 10-kilometer run along Chicago’s lakefront in a time of 1 hour 50 minutes and 59 seconds.

Mark Allen, 27, also of Del Mar, was second in 1:51.55, while Scott Tinley, 28, of Encinitas, was third.

Gayelene Clews, of Canberra, Australia, won the women’s title in 2:03.08.
