Singapore Man Hanged for Drug Trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia —
A Singapore man was hanged Wednesday for drug trafficking, a prison officer said.
Lim Boon Hock, 29, who pleaded guilty in 1981 to trafficking in 85 pounds of raw opium, was hanged at Pudu prison, the officer said.
Malaysia’s strict drug laws make the death penalty mandatory for possession of more than .53 ounces of heroin or morphine.
Fifty-one people are on death row for drug offenses. Malaysia has hanged 31 people for drug offenses since 1975.
