MX Silo Launch a Success

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. —
An unarmed MX missile was launched today from a modified underground silo, the ninth MX test firing and the first under realistic conditions. The Pentagon later pronounced the test a success.
The four-stage missile, launched at 9:39 a.m., took 30 minutes to fly the 4,700 miles to the Kwajalein Missile Test Range in the Pacific Ocean, where “all (dummy) warheads are reported down in the target area,” said Lt. Col. Don Brownlee, an Air Force spokesman at the Pentagon.
