Natalia Yurchenko of the Soviet Union outscored Romanian Ecaterina Szabo, a double gold medalist in the 1984 Olympics to win the World University Games women’s gymnastics all-around gold medal at Kobe, Japan.
The Soviets also won the women’s team title, with Romania taking the silver.
Tami Elliot, 20, of Newport News, Va., led the U.S. scorers with 37.550 points, placing 10th among the 32 participants.
