Iran has stepped up executions of political prisoners, an opposition exile organization said Wednesday.

The Paris-based People’s Moujahedeen said in a statement that 47 political prisoners were executed in Tehran’s Evin prison early this month.

“This batch of political executions was among a series of steps taken recently by the Khomeini regime to counter the rise of extensive nationwide protests and resistance” against the recent presidential elections, the statement said. It called the elections a “farce.”
