Michelle Mitchell and Daniel Lee Watson of the United States won silver medals in the diving competition at the World University Games at Kobe, Japan.
The Soviet Union won four more gold medals to widen its overall lead in the medal standings. The Soviets have won 65 medals (35 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze). The United States is second with 52 (17, 18, 17).
Mitchell finished second to China’s Lu Wei, while Watson, a Harvard student from Ashland, Ky., was second to China’s Tong Hui.
