Charges for Own Check
For the past few weeks letters regarding bank charges have appeared in your column, but I don’t think any can rival the experience I recently had in Houston.
While doing business there, a client issued me a check drawn on the First Houston Bank. I went to my client’s branch to cash this check and was promptly informed that First Houston Bank would charge me a $5 service charge for cashing its own check. I protested. They were adamant.
Is this the wave of the future?
If the check had been written for only $10, would First Houston give me $5 and keep $5?
