The World : Coup Leader Asks U.S. Visa

One of the ringleaders of the unsuccessful coup in Thailand has applied for a U.S. visa, Washington officials said. The officials, requesting anonymity, said Col. Manoon Roopkachorn applied in Singapore, where he flew Monday night after the coup collapsed. Another ringleader, Manoon’s brother Manas, an air force wing commander, was believed to have flown on to Burma from Singapore. There were reports in Bangkok that the brothers had been allowed to leave the country in exchange for freeing the Thai air force commander, abducted during the coup attempt, in which four people were killed.
