Brushing Teeth

Camille Carpenter (Letters, Aug. 27) thinks it’s really absurd for someone to be brushing his teeth on the freeway, but of all the activities she listed, brushing one’s teeth is surely the safest and makes the most sense.

In fact, my dentist advised all of his patients to do exactly that, in a newsletter he sent out about three years ago. What Carpenter fails to realize is that one doesn’t need toothpaste to brush one’s teeth. The action of the bristles on the teeth and gums is the best cleansing process around, and the more time spent at it, the better.
