Escalating their battle against smoking, three national health organizations disclosed a joint public service advertising campaign designed to drive home to prospective smokers the health hazards of cigarettes. At a news conference, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Assn. and the American Heart Assn. displayed television, radio and magazine ads featuring the new rotating warning labels that must begin appearing on cigarette packages next month.
