A Matter of Emphasis

Share

While understanding the need to “boost sales” for cigarettes (“Cigarettes: Makers Aim at Special Niches to Boost Sales,” Sept. 15), it’s disheartening to note the special emphasis directed at the black and Latino communities.

Both of these communities are among those with the lowest economic income, highest health risks and in the need of education as to temperance. Yet, the tobacco industry seems determined, by its special sales program aimed at them, to increase their smoking, and add to their miseries. Few will ever attain the position of the role models used.
