Corsican separatist commandos stormed into the studios of a local state-owned radio station Friday and forced technicians to broadcast a communique calling on islanders to join their cause.

Officials of the Radio Corsa Frenquenza Mora said five armed and masked men stormed into the building and forced the staff at gunpoint to broadcast a tape.

The attackers said they were members of the outlawed Corsican National Liberation Front, which has been waging a violent campaign for independence for the Mediterranean island from mainland France for the last 20 years.

“Corsican brothers and sisters, this is a message from the Corsican National Front. Join our struggle against fake ideologies from the right and the left,” the statement said.

The commandos left immediately after the broadcast. Normal programs resumed about half an hour later.
