Education Secretary William J. Bennett urged conservative activists to join him in a fight to restore a “coherent moral vision” to America’s public schools. He made the remarks in a speech prepared for delivery to leaders of Phyllis Schafly’s Eagle Forum at a meeting in Washington. Bennett said children should be taught such values as patriotism, self-discipline, thrift, honesty and the concept “that there is a moral difference between the United States and the Soviet Union.”
