Semtech’s Losses Are Less Than in ’84 Period

Newbury Park-based Semtech said its losses were $364,000, 20 cents a share, in the second quarter ended Aug. 3, contrasted with $1.7 million, 93 cents a share, a year earlier. The losses during the quarter last year included $1.3 million to recognize the decreased value of some of its inventory and assets.

Semtech said net sales in the quarter fell less than 1% to $3.05 million from $3.06 million a year earlier.

For the first six months of its fiscal year, Semtech’s after-tax loss narrowed to $692,000, or 38 cents a share, from $2.2 million a year earlier, or $1.23 a share. Sales in that period increased 13% to $6.1 million from $5.4 million.

The company makes power rectifiers, devices that control the flow of electricity, used in airplanes.
