Israeli Activity Halted to Observe Yom Kippur
(UPI)
JERUSALEM —
Almost all activity came to a halt today as Israelis began observance of Yom Kippur, the most solemn day in the Jewish year.
Israel Radio’s news programs went off the air at 1 p.m. for 31 hours. Police asked people not to drive but said if it was necessary to do so, to post a sign in the vehicle saying it was an emergency. Israeli newspapers will not publish until Thursday.
