Reaction to Gorbachev Views

Share

Congratulations to The Times for balancing the naivete of George McGovern with the common sense of Jeane Kirkpatrick. It is absolutely ridiculous for McGovern to give any significance to the mentioning of God by Gorbachev during his interview with Time magazine and more so since Tass changed such reference to the Almighty from “God on high” to “honestly . . . .”

At any rate, since when should mentioning God by anyone from the left or the right or anywhere in between be taken at face value? With down-to-earth frankness, Nikita Khrushchev said that people, himself included, used God’s name out of habit.

Oh God! Forgive us our foolishness as we marvel at those who never learn and please give the West some more Kirkpatricks. We sorely need them to face the smart young leaders at the Kremlin.
