AIDS FOUNDATION FORMED
A national foundation for AIDS research--aiming to raise $10 million in its first year--will be unveiled here today, sources said.
The American Foundation for AIDS Research (AFAR) will be announced by Mathilde Krim of the New York-based AIDS Medical Foundation, UCLA’s Dr. Michael Gottlieb and Bill Misenheimer, AFAR’s director.
AFAR will merge the AIDS Medical Foundation with the recently founded National AIDS Research Foundation here.
A source said most of the money raised for AFAR--an undisclosed amount--has come from Los Angeles and that he expected that AFAR can raise “$10 million the first year.”
Among AFAR’s 15 board members are Edie Wasserman, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Scott, Rosemary Tomisch and Dr. Arnold Kline, the source said.
