Share

A Simi Valley man, awaiting trial on charges of possessing illegal explosives in his home, has been charged with molesting a teen-age male relative.

John Donald Ommondson, 43, pleaded not guilty in Ventura Municipal Court last week to four counts of child molestation, Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. Greg Totten said. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 10.

It was while searching Ommondson’s home for evidence to corroborate a molestation complaint in early August that Simi Valley police said they discovered 45 pounds of illegal explosives. Police said they also found military manuals on how to build booby traps and equipment to build them.

Ommondson told police that he had collected the explosives during 20 years in the Marine Corps, but never intended to use them.

Ommondson was being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail on charges of possessing illegal explosives and $20,000 bail on charges of child molestation.
