Local News in Brief : Burbank Postpones Media-Zone Meetings

Share

Burbank officials have postponed until January neighborhood meetings scheduled this month for citizen comments on a proposal to cut back construction in the city’s Media District.

Community Development Director Larry Kosmont said he and his staff wanted to devote more time to developing meetings that will deal with the land-use element of the city’s general plan before holding the neighborhood meetings, which will deal specifically with the Media District.

“This is a logical step in terms of planning,” Kosmont said. “The conversations on the specific plan will fit in logically once we form what we want to do on land use and zoning throughout the city.”

Officials, faced with rapid construction and development in the Media District, have proposed limiting the growth of film studios in the area as well as putting a cap on future projects. Officials said unlimited growth in the area would produce traffic gridlock and destroy the ambiance of adjacent neighborhoods.

Representatives from several studios have opposed the proposal.

Kosmont said he wanted to get comments from developers and executives in the area, as well as residents, before drafting a final plan in the spring for council approval.
