Extra policemen patrolled the streets of Ashburn, Ga., the night after a stone- and bottle-throwing demonstration sparked by the fatal shooting of a black fugitive by a white police officer the night before. Mayor J. I. Youngblood imposed a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew on teen-agers in this south-central Georgia town, but it was canceled before it could go into effect. “It’s extra quiet here,” Turner County Sheriff Lamar Whiddon said Tuesday evening. The night before, a gathering of about 500 blacks, many of them teen-agers, had turned violent.
