The Allentown, Pa.-based company said it plans to begin selling an Americanized version of the innovative Renault FR-1 coach in April, 1986. Engines and transmissions for the FR-1 are already being made at Mack’s Hagerstown, Md., plant. The bodies and chassis will be imported from France. The bus will be targeted for a variety of uses, such as executive transport, airport commuting, tour-group services and luxury long-distance travel, the company said. Mack, which built America’s first motorized touring coach in 1900, said it got out of the coach and bus market in 1960 because of market conditions. Renault owns a 40.6% stake in Mack Trucks.
