A San Diego City Council committee Wednesday gave preliminary approval to two measures aimed at making downtown streets cleaner. The Public Services and Safety Committee approved increasing downtown street sweeping from two to three times a week, as well as adding an eight-member workfare crew to clean downtown sidewalks. The measures, which will be presented to the full council for approval, will cost nearly $40,000, which is available in the current budget, city officials said.
