Ventura County Supervisor Edwin Jones was sentenced to two years’ informal probation after pleading no contest to charges of public drunkenness and disturbing the peace. Jones, 54, had been charged with misdemeanor lewd conduct and indecent exposure, but those counts were dismissed as part of a plea bargain with the Los Angeles city attorney’s office. The former Board of Supervisors’ chairman and Thousand Oaks mayor also was fined $1,000 and ordered by San Fernando Municipal Judge Morton Rochman to undergo psychological and alcohol abuse counseling, court officials said. Deputy City Atty. George Schell said prosecutors agreed to the plea bargain because the young woman who accused Jones of exposing himself at a Studio City motel was unwilling to testify against him.
