Vista
Gov. George Deukmejian on Friday appointed William Draper Jr., a San Diego deputy district attorney from Vista, as a Municipal Court judge for the North County Judicial District.
Draper, 50, replaces Judge Zalman Scherer, who was promoted to the San Diego County Superior Court. Before becoming a deputy district attorney in 1978, Draper was a general courts-martial trial judge for the Marine Corps. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1978.
Also, Draper was a Marine Corps judge advocate from 1966-75, holding several positions including trial counsel and defense counsel.
Draper is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received a Ph.D. from the University of San Diego in 1965.
The annual salary for Municipal Court judges is $70,436.
