Reagan Gaffe Makes Lees Feel at Home

WASHINGTON —
In an elaborate state ceremony today on the White House South Lawn, with a military honor guard and the Washington Monument standing in the background, President Reagan welcomed Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his wife “to Singapore.”
When Reagan greeted the longtime leader of Singapore, he said, “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and Mrs. Yew--Mrs. Lee--to Singapore.”
