The slumping Sunnyvale, Calif.-based semiconductor firm also said it won’t hold its customary, lavish Christmas party this year. AMD said it will require most of its 7,600 U.S. workers to take six days of vacation in late December in addition to previously scheduled holidays, effectively closing the company from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5. The step is similar to those planned by other chip makers.
