Hawes, Starr to Head General Dynamics Units

Share

General Dynamics is creating a new weapons system division based in Rancho Cucamonga, resulting in reassignments for two executives. The formation of the new unit reflects the rapid growth of the big defense contractor’s Pomona division, which now will be split into two independent operations.

Ralph E. Hawes, who has been vice president and general manager at the firm’s Pomona division since 1977, will become the new general manager of the Rancho Cucamonga unit, to be known as the Valley Systems division. The facility will produce a number of small missile systems, including the Stinger.

Moving up to run the Pomona division is Sterling V. Starr, currently vice president and assistant general manager there. He has been with General Dynamics since 1953 in a variety of engineering and administrative posts.
