The November issue of Hustler magazine was ordered withheld from California prison inmate subscribers because of what a Department of Corrections spokesman called “sensitive material in terms of the security of the institution”--a layout depicting the rape of a woman guard by prisoners. Tim Conway, Hustler executive editor, said the ban came as no surprise, adding that the magazine has not yet decided whether to take action in response. Corrections Department spokesman Don Rasmusen said state law permits restriction of a prisoner’s rights when prison security or public safety are at stake. He said the state attorney general’s office has been asked to review the issue.
