FM Station Switches Format, Call Letters
Listeners who tuned in late Thursday afternoon to radio station KBEST and heard the Eagles instead of Dire Straits weren’t hallucinating. The station switched its format and call letters at 3 p.m. after completion of the $9.75-million purchase by Sandusky Newspapers Inc. from Alta Broadcasting. The station’s new name is KWLT (K-LITE) 94.9-FM. Its adult-contemporary music has been dropped in favor of a “light classics” format featuring music from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, which is perceived as the way to reach women between the ages of 25 and 44.
Why the switch in demographics? They’re “the biggest draw in advertising,” general manager Timothy J. Hahnke said.
