Some Spectators Figure He Missed a Good Game

I have enclosed my ticket stub from the Oct. 2 Dodger game for Times writer Richard Hoffer as he could not possibly have attended the game and yet written an article about the fans’ “blase” attitude regarding the clinching of the division.

He should get his story straight if he wants to continue to pretend he was in the same stadium and saw the same game my girlfriend and I did. Tell him the fans were having a great time anticipating either a Reds’ loss or a Dodger win.

Tell him they went crazy when the final news was announced. Tell him that the ovations really didn’t stop until well into the next inning. Tell him that the crowd loudly cheered the Dodgers on all through the game (especially each of Hershiser’s three hits).

Tell him that while the Diamond Vision clip was applauded, it was because it featured pennant-winning moments from the past on what was a very special night. Tell him that the 32,000 fans who were there enjoyed every minute of the game. And tell him we’re sorry Dodger fans don’t throw bottles like the “real” fans Mr. Hoffer prefers in other cities.

It’s really too bad Mr. Hoffer couldn’t have sat down, had a beer or two and some peanuts, and enjoyed the game with the rest of us. I guess he was too busy trying to figure out a cute theme for his story.
