Santa Ana : Traffic Diverters to Be Installed This Week

Share

Traffic diverters will be installed this week as part of the city’s North Central Santa Ana Traffic Plan, designed to reduce the amount of traffic on residential streets.

The diverters, which will consist of stripes and signs, will force northbound motorists on Flower and Ross streets to turn on 17th Street rather than continuing into the neighborhood.

The measures are the latest in a series approved by the City Council last month. They include stop signs, a “no-right-turn” restriction from Memory Lane onto Flower during rush hours, parking restrictions and the proposed closure of the Flower Street off ramp from the Santa Ana Freeway.

Diverters will be installed on Flower on Wednesday and on Ross on Thursday. Traffic engineer George Alvarez said that the Police Department will begin issuing tickets to violators immediately and that the city will monitor the situation to gauge its effect on traffic north of 17th.

A study of the plan’s impact will be presented to the City Council in February.
