The state Supreme Court stayed the release of nearly 800 pages of documents in the case of Charles Ng at the request of Ng’s lawyers, who said baring the court records could jeopardize his right to a fair trial in the notorious mass murder case. Ng, a 24-year-old martial arts expert, is charged with two murders at the Calaveras County cabin where alleged accomplice Leonard Lake lived, and where authorities found the remains of at least 11 people during the summer. Ng is being held in Calgary, Alberta, on attempted murder charges. Lake committed suicide in San Francisco while in police custody. Lawyers for several newspapers sought to have the court records unsealed. Chief Justice Rose Elizabeth Bird and Justice Stanley Mosk dissented.
