What Feminism Does and Doesn’t Mean

Share

The Times deserves a compliment for its article on Concerned Women of America in the View section. The media have given such complete and devoted coverage to the feminist movement that one tends to believe that every woman over 3 and under 100 is a supporter of National Organization for Women, or one of the other organizations of that ilk. NOW doesn’t represent my views on any issue that I’m aware of, and it is refreshing to read that thousands of other women share my point of view.

It would give me great satisfaction to add my name to the “puny little group of bloated figures,” which apparently is the best description (NOW President) Eleanor Smeal can manufacture on short notice, in reference to Concerned Women for America. Who knows, there may be others of the female persuasion who will join me in contributing, and maybe soon Ms. Smeal’s “bloated” estimation of her sway over the women of the world will be deflated, defused and debunked.
