A $200-million contract--one of the largest in state history--has been put out for bids by the state Lottery Commission to create a computerized “pick-six numbers” game, scheduled to be ready for play by July 1. The proposed four-year pact calls for installation of 5,000 terminals in retail outlets across the state, with a capacity for handling 120,000 transactions per minute. Tentative plans call for bids to be delivered to lottery officials Nov. 8 and the contract to be awarded in mid-December. Because of the size of the job, the commission voted to accept bids outlining both a one-company and a two-company operation of the new gambling game, which will offer weekly multimillion dollar jackpots for players who match six numbers with those picked by the lottery.
