Killer Refuses to Appeal Wednesday Execution

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. —
Condemned killer William Vandiver refuses to appeal his execution set for Wednesday, frustrating civil rights groups that need his consent to fight for a reprieve, attorneys said Monday.
“I want to be left alone to die in peace,” Vandiver said in a recent interview. He faces electrocution for the March, 1983, stabbing death of his father-in-law, Paul Komyatti Sr., 65, of Hammond.
