A bank offered to merge with Mercantile Bank.
The National Bank of Canada said it made an offer to merge with Mercantile Bank of Canada, which has been beset with liquidity problems following the collapse of two other banks. Edward Lyssan, executive vice president for finance and control at National, said he expected a response within 24 hours. Both banks are based in Montreal.
