The Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini called on members of Iran’s Parliament to smooth over their differences and rally behind the government of Prime Minister Hussein Moussavi “to avoid a failure for Islam.” Khomeini’s intervention followed a vote of confidence Sunday in which more than a third of the legislators refused to back the government. Khomeini condemned “Western style” parliamentary dissension. he also called on the nations’s military forces “to make war and not politics.”
