The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it will open a two-week inspection of ground water beneath the Casmalia hazardous waste dump near Santa Maria. The inspection, to be carried out by the EPA’s National Ground Water Task Force, will attempt to determine whether Casmalia Resources is complying with federal ground water monitoring requirements, including an adequate number of monitoring wells. The inspection could result in enforcement actions against the dump if violations are found. Samples of water will also be tested for the presence of 225 hazardous materials.
