Two California Highway Patrol officers were ordered by a Bakersfield municipal judge to stand trial on charges of stealing money from motorists they stopped. Rodney Johnson, 29, and Richard B. Phillips, 26, will be arraigned Nov. 4 in Kern County Superior Court. They were arrested after $200 in marked money was stolen from a Bakersfield police officer posing as a motorist with a disabled car, the Kern County district attorney’s office said. The two officers are charged with two counts each of grand theft, embezzlement and conspiracy. Phillips is also accused of receiving stolen property.
