John Kolius, who resigned last month as skipper and sailing manager because of what he called a political struggle with the New York Yacht Club, has agreed to rejoin the America II syndicate’s bid for the America’s Cup.

He’ll return as skipper of the yacht that the club hopes can regain the America’s Cup from Australia, which wrested it from the United States in 1983.

“I just want to get on with the sailing,” said Kolius, whose previous duties as sailing manager will be assumed by Tom McLaughlin of San Diego.

“John Kolius will have as much to say as he had before, but with fewer duties as far as management is concerned,” said Richard DeVos, who replaced Arthur J. Santry Jr., as syndicate chairman in the wake of Kolius’ resignation.
