Ed (Too Tall) Jones, defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, pleaded no contest Thursday to drunken driving and was sentenced to three years’ probation and fined $750 by Municipal Judge Arturo Gutierrez.

The 6-9 Jones, 32, avoided a jury trial by changing his innocent plea to nolo contendere, the same as a guilty plea in criminal law.

Jones was arrested last August after sheriff’s deputies observed him driving erratically about 10 miles from where the Cowboys were training in Thousand Oaks. Authorities said he was driving at the time with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.10 percent.
