You have to figure that artist Dustin Shuler, 37, has his act together, no matter that he makes his living skinning cars for their “pelts,” which he exhibits at art galleries, such as the show he just completed in the Cypress College Fine Arts Gallery.

“It’s like skinning a bear that you hunt in the forest,” he said, “except I do it to the outside of a car. My hunting grounds are the freeways.”

One of the “kills” he exhibited was a motorcycle embedded in cement. He also has a Porsche pelt on a wall at Chapman College in Orange.

Is it art? “I’m an artist and the creator, and I say it’s art,” he said, noting that he has skinned six cars so far.

“I’m going after No. 7,” he said. “I’m hunting for a black-and-white Los Angeles Police Department patrol car. That will be quite a trophy.”
