“SAN DIEGO, Oct. 21 --Sign painters and electricians worked hard today at Tia Juana to change advertising signs to conform with an order issued by Arturo Bernal, new governor of the Northern District of Lower California,that signs must be in Spanish. To save some of the electrical signs, which are elaborate and costly, a committee has been sent by merchants to Mexico City to seek some change in the order.

“It was reported in Tia Juana that the new governor will demand that Mexican currency be used exclusively at the border town, but no order to that effect has been made. The new governor, however, has made it known that his administration wants to have Tia Juana as near Mexican in every way possible, and that he is utterly opposed to its ‘Americanization’ in recent years.”
