Panel to Visit Proposed Country Club Site

After hearing testimony from Topanga Canyon residents on a proposed $100-million resort complex, members of the Regional Planning Commission have decided to visit the site of the controversial project on Nov. 14.
More than 100 Topanga Canyon residents attended the first of two public hearings on the proposed Montevideo Country Club on Thursday. Developers have asked that the project include a golf course, a 106-room hotel, a 15-court tennis club, an equestrian center, 224 single-family homes and a heliport.
The Planning Commission staff recommended that the project include 136 single-family homes, the golf course and a proposed country grocery store, a bank, a gas station and other neighborhood shops.
The second public hearing will be conducted on Dec. 4 in the Hall of Records in Los Angeles.
