Culver City Planning Commission Recommends Dish Antenna Controls

The Culver City Planning Commission has unanimously recommended adoption of an ordinance to control the installation of satellite dish television antennas.

The City Council is expected to consider the proposed law at its Nov. 11 meeting, according to city planner Jay Cunningham.

Most roof-mounted dishes will be prohibited by the ordinance, except when homeowners cannot get adequate reception with a ground-mounted dish.

Another provision will prohibit dishes larger than 12 feet in diameter. The dishes also will not be allowed in front yards, unless no other location will provide suitable reception.

City officials also will be able to require coloring and screening of an antenna so it blends in with its background.

The antennas provide access to more than 100 stations, allowing owners to watch blacked-out sporting events and foreign programming.
